As a father I have been impacted by the Austerity Agenda that causes such harm to our community. One of my kids’ schools has been threatened with closure and my wife or I regularly take a 3-hour round trip each week because there is no longer any local medical support for one of our children.
I don’t like seeing friends constantly worried that their job, their benefits or their support needs will go in the next round of cuts. And with the backdrop of creeping Climate Change and corporate power seizing more and more control I’m standing for election simply because I’ve had enough.
I’m fed up with seeing politicians walking towards photo shoots but away from people with problems. I am tired of all of the bad decisions. I am a father making a stand, and I wholeheartedly believe that the Green Party is the only party with the ideas to make a real difference.Unlike candidates from the other parties I have to fit my campaign around a full time job and without paid support staff. It should go without saying but I do not, and will never, accept money for campaigns from unethical sources.
I am a geography graduate (Plymouth) and studied post-graduate courses in geography and environmental management (Oxford and Oxford Brookes).
I work as the Managing Director of a firm that designs and builds small-scale renewable energy schemes and in the last 10 years I’ve taken an idea in a pub through to a multi-award winning business (that invests all of its profits back into the community). Previously I have worked as a secondary school teacher.
I’ve been lucky enough to pick up a few awards throughout my career such as winning the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts’ £1million innovation prize the Big Green Challenge (Note, they didn’t give us the full million and all the money went to community projects by the way – not me personally!) and receiving the British Empire Medal for Services to the Green Energy industry in Wales.
Which is great and all, but all I really want is for Wales to be fairer and more compassionate. I just want a better place for my kids to grow old. And I want people to have hope.
